SPECIAL AWARDS

  • Yarnell Hill 19 Memorial Trophy is one perpetual and individual keeper trophy awarded to an Arizona premier dancer. (see competition rules) This trophy is sponsored by Lisa Scott and MaryBeth Klein dedicated to the 19 heroes of the Prescott based Granite Mountain Hotshots crew who perished while fighting the Yarnell Hill wildfire on June 30, 2013.
  • Carl D. Maschino Memorial Trophy awards trophies and cash prizes to the winning Premier dancers for Under 12 ($75) and 12 & Over ($100) categories in the Sailor’s Hornpipe Challenge. This award is sponsored by the Maschino School of Highland Dance in memory of Carl D Maschino’s service in the U.S. Navy.
  • Claire M. Casey Memorial Trophy is a perpetual trophy, keeper trophy and $75 cash prize awarded to the winning Intermediate dancer of the Irish Jig. This award is sponsored by Lady Claire Lodge #261 of the Daughters of Scotia Chandler, Arizona
  • Desert Thistle Challenge Twa’Some Choreography (two-person Scotch Measure) challenge is open to Intermediate and Premier dancers that is played to the Scotch Measure. Costume and steps can be either original or traditional. This award consists of a perpetual and keeper trophy to the winning team.  Award is sponsored by the Desert Thistle Lodge #260 of the Daughters of Scotia Phoenix, Arizona
  • Paulina McMaster Memorial consists of a keeper trophy awarded to the premier dancer in a 4 Step Village Maid. This was Paulina's favorite dance. Award is sponsored by Lisa Scott in memory of Paulina McMaster


Competition Rules

  • Competition will be governed by RSOBHD and ScotDance USA rules.
  • All dancers must have a valid Scotdance or RSOBHD registration number to enter. A valid 2024 card is required to compete and receive awards. 
  • Dancers without a valid 2024 registration card will not be allowed to compete.
  • Change in classification must be received by September 23, 2024.
  • This is a non-refundable entry.
  • Organizers reserve the right to cancel, split or combine, add events or makes changes within the RSOBHD rules.
  • Dancers who are last to enter will be first to dance, and when applicable the dancer will fill in for a reel.
  • All competitors are expected to comply with ScotDance USA Code of Ethics.
  • Any dancer causing delay will forfeit entry in any event.
  • Any attempt to approach a judge or piper on behalf of a competitor may result in disqualification.
  • Dancers must be in competition dress to accept all awards.
  • Decisions of the judge are final. Protests must be made in writing and submitted to the Executive Secretary with a fee of $5.00 before the end of the competition. Fee will be returned if protest is sustained.
  • All dances count toward aggregate trophies except for special challenge dances.  Aggregate trophy is awarded to the dancer in their class and age category with the highest points.
  • Pre-Premier dancers will receive medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places and ribbons for 4th, 5th, and 6th places. Aggregate trophies will be awarded based on age group and category.
  • Premier age groups will be based on total number of registrations.
  • Oldest Premier class will receive cash awards and ribbons. All other Premier groups will receive medals and ribbons. 
  • Aggregate trophies are based on the number of dancers and age groups.
  • Competitor numbers will be issued at registration.
  • Dancers competing in the Twa-Some Choreography are not required to be from the same dance school.
  • Yarnell Hill 19 Memorial Trophy will consist of a dance-off for AZ Premier dancers ONLY. To qualify, a dancer must place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in either the Fling, Sword, or Seann Triubhas.
  • The Yarnell Hill 19 dance-off will be cut steps to either the Fling, Sword, or Seann Triubhas. Dance will be determined on the day of competition. 
  • Primary PDB and PDB & HC will be first to dance. Primary Fling and Sword will be danced in sequence following Beginner Fling and Sword. Primary awards will take place before the lunch break .
  • Competitor and pre-paid admission tickets can be purchased online and presented at the gate.
  • Judges who conduct teaching or coaching classes, seminars, or any other forms of tuition (eg. by video conferencing), may not adjudicate any competitor who has attended any of these classes, for a period of three months after the last class, workshop, or any other form of tuition that competitor has attended.

Photographs and videos taken by parents/friends must be limited to your own dancer unless you are given permission from the dancer’s parent/legal guardian.

Privacy Disclosure Statement: Personal data (PII) is collected from the competition entry form and owned by the Prescott Area Celtic Society (PACS) for the purpose of performing our duties within RSOBHD and ScotDance USA guidelines. All data is recorded in electronic format (Excel and Highland Scrutineer) and retained for a period of one (1) year at which time electronic records will be deleted. Competition results may be posted on ScotDance Western Region websites.

  • Open to any Intermediate or Premier dancer and you are not required to be from the same dance school.

  • Open to Premier dancers to compete in the 4 Step Village Maid. Music was written specifically for this dance. and will be provided upon registration.


  • ($5 of each entry fee will be donated to ScotDance Western Region)


If you have family coming to cheer you on, they will need to purchase general admission tickets to get in. We now have added an option to the registration confirmation where you can purchase advanced discounted tickets for them. These are 2-Day passes, and at a special competitor. There is a limit of 5 tickets per registration, please only use these for your family. These tickets are available to Dancers competing in the Dance competitions at the Prescott Highland Games.

In consideration of the acceptance of this entry, I hereby, for myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators, waive and release Yavapai County, Prescott Area Celtic Society (PACS), its Games Committee, their agents, and representatives, successors, and assignees, for any and all injuries suffered by my participation in the 2024 Prescott Highland Games & Celtic Faire, September 28 & 29, 2024. In addition, I authorize PACS to take and use whatever photographs of me participating for whatever purpose they deem appropriate by an official PACS photographer.
